Selfridges For Summer

Selfridges Live EventIt may be freezing outside, but yesterday I threw off my big faux fur jacket to explore a very exciting preview in the warmth of Selfridges’ flagship store on Oxford Street. 2012 is going to be a biggie, with the Olympic Games and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to look forward to, and Selfridges will build-up the excitement with a range of fun, funky and fashionable products to commemorate the special summer.

Even if you’re not mad into sports – or the Royal Family – you’ve still got to sneak a peek at the beautiful fashion, homeware, accessories, food and beauty products Selfridges has in store. The Big British Bang season starts on May 4th and runs until late August, and it is packed with everything from an Emma Bridgewater Diamond Jubilee teapot to Pearly Queen inspired six inch stilettos by Nicholas Kirkwood.

You’ll be able to get your hands on everything you need for a Diamond Jubilee street party, including cardboard cake stands and London-themed table decorations, and get dressed to suit the occasion in a Tatty Devine tiara and Vivienne Westwood God Save the Queen t-shirt.

If you want to mark the occasion in serious style, Mulberry has designed an exclusive Union Jack edition of the Bayswater bag, and Stella McCartney’s Horsehead pendant is double yummy. Boys can slip on a Fred Perry polo shirt designed by artist Peter Blake, or a Gieves & Hawkes bespoke navy blazer with a Union Jack embroidered motif. There are plenty of Olympic-themed products too, including cases for the kids by Trunki, commemorative glassware and an Olympic version of Monopoly.

Even if you’re not up for celebrating with the rest of the nation, Selfridges has thought of something to tickle your fancy. For the glampers, there’s a sheep-themed tent, and Hunter has designed a pair of bright yellow wellies for Selfridges. Designers including Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Anya Hindmarch have created “survival packs” in case you’re getting away from it all – but Philip Lim’s denim-jacket-cum-back-pack is the highlight.

As the big events approach, Selfridges Oxford Street is hosting a tiara exhibition and Tiara Shop, The Queen Shop (including the Queen’s favourite Launer London bag) and special events including a tea party and crazy golf session – both taking place on Selfridge’s roof!

Well, if the Style Compare team wasn’t excited about summer 2012 before, we certainly are now. Bring it on.

Feeling Great British?
