It’s The Bomb!

Bomber Jackets

Girly is my middle name, but bomber jackets have been in and out of my wardrobe more times than Sinitta has shouted “Ant!” and “Dec!” in a Bush Tucker Trial (and believe me, that’s a lot).

If you think that bomber jackets are only for boys, think again. This season they are available in an array of styles and colours, from Paul’s Boutique  uber-feminine pink Varsity bomber jacket to the classic, soft leather bomber by ASOS.

If you’re not sure how to wear your bomber, there are two basic looks. Keep it simply stylish and minimal with skinny jeans and ankle boots, or girly things up with a pencil skirt and funky platforms.

Sadly, bombers rarely work with dresses unless you choose an ultra-feminine style like Urban Code’s longline fur bomber, which works with everything from Dorothy Perkins pleated 70s tea dress to Kaliko’s one shoulder maxi.

Bombers do give you the excuse to be daring with separates – and I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage you all to go wild. For example, wear Topshop’s marabou feather bomber with Diane von Furstenberg’s suede and leather panel skirt and Christian Louboutin’s yummy suede boots.

Or, how about rocking-up River Island’s fur bomber with New Look’s jumbo cord shorts and French Connection’s Kesham boots for a tough and sexy result.

To go right out there into fashion Never Never Land, team the ASOS Africa quilted bomber with the Amaze Me dress by MinkPink and Dr Marten’s printed 8 eye boots– it’s a punky, irreverent look and it is bound to get you noticed (for all the right reasons).

Boys can go either way with bombers too. Either play it the classic way with Gucci’s timeless jacket, a casual checked shirt and dark wash straight-legged jeans, or get creative with Alexander McQueen’s wool cashmere bomber, Copenhagen-based label Samsoe and Samsoe’s bonde jumper and Dolce & Gabbana’s over-dyed denim jeans. Add Grenson’s Archie honey brogues for the ultimate finishing touch.

And if your main concern is being bang on trend, the RLX Ralph Lauren field jacketis the style you need to invest in – I spotted Matt Cardle in a very similar style just last week, and he was looking super-slick in it.

Wardrobe staple it may be but (as I think we’ve proved nicely) when you start to play around and style it up, the bomber jacket sure is versatile.
