Get Tribal With Aztec Prints

Usually, I think of Aztec prints as everyday wear – I wouldn’t usually buy a piece for going out somewhere special in. This season, however, there are some gorgeous skirts and dresses that would work for a fancy restaurant or club night; I love the ASOS mini skirt in Aztec sequin and the stunning hand-embellished dress by All Saints. And (drum roll please) the amazing ASOS Exclusive Playsuit In Aztec Print is guaranteed to cause a big stir. All are fantastic if you want to show off your figure, and all demand to be worn with fierce platforms.

I do stick to my earlier statement that Aztec prints are brilliant for everyday wear. The best policy is to stick to one Aztec piece per outfit, even if that’s an accessory, and then either use the Aztec design as the one splash of colour against an otherwise black or neutral outfit, or go crazy funky with colour block tights, fluoro make-up and a coloured faux fur coat.

Aztec leggings may be a brave move, but with an oversized jumper and biker boots, they can take on a grungy look. Have a peep at Topshop’s black Aztec print leggings and the ASOS peg trouser – or, if you’re not quite sure about covering the whole of your leg in Aztec loveliness, how about trying Topshop’s wool legwarmers?

For ladylike Aztec cool, I’m crazy about some of the dresses you can get your paws on at Style Compare right now. The All Saints chariot dress, ASOS midi dress and Prophecy Aztec dress with embellishment are all perfect for winter wear with thick, dark coloured tights and brogues.

And if you’d rather go for a classic Aztec knit, this season is brimming with them. Urban Outfitters open Aztec cardi will set black skinny jeans and a black motif t-shirt alight; Vila’s oversized cardigan gives jeans and Shearling-lined boots some zing; and Yogo Ego’s cosy cardigan is the ideal choice to go with winter shorts.

Whichever Aztec piece you choose, wear it with some ancient attitude and your tribal tones will spice things up as Christmas approaches.
