festive fever trend christmas 2011

Remember when you were a kid and your kind-hearted gran gave you that big, squidgy parcel to open on Christmas morning? Could it be a beautiful, sparkly party dress, or a gorgeous, cuddly teddy bear? When you ripped open the wrapping to reveal a Christmas-themed knit, tell me your heart didn’t sink…

Christmas-themed clothing used to be all kinds of naff, but this year the mega-popularity of products like Burton’s beer can Christmas tree t-shirt and Topshop’s snowman jumper have created a thriving micro-trend. Reindeer print knits are must-haves and, whether ironic or not, any fashionista worth her salt will be going to bed in snowflake PJs on Christmas night.

If you want to rock this trend, my advice is to get in there quick as Christmas prints won’t wash on or after New Year’s Day. The time is now, but make sure you stash your picks for next December because I have a feeling this trend will be back in vogue come Christmas 2012.

Ladies can get festive in the blinding neon Christmas jumper by ASOS which ticks three trend boxes all at once with its fluro-Aztec vibe. If you’re brave enough, wear with sequin leggings, or dress it down with black jeans and snow boots. I’m also mad about Urban Outfitters Renewal customised novelty Christmas jumper which has lashing of irony-laden style (wear with denim cut-offs, tights and lace up boots to perfect the look). Boohoo’s Fair Isle cardigan may be covered in reindeers, but I’m tipping this style as something you can wear well into January.

The knitted reindeer mini skirt by ASOS is a great way to make a Christmas statement with a difference too.

For the boys, Urban Outfitters Renewal Christmas jumper looks fab with cords and loafers, and Gant’s Men’s Shawl neck reindeer jumper is perfect for wearing with skinny fit jeans and massive winter boots.

You can slip on some Christmas undies too – the snowman t-shirt bra by No Romeo is all kinds of cute, as are New Look’s reindeer briefs – very cheeky indeed! Blokes can get festive beneath their jeans in Debenhams polar bear novelty trunks.

And, after the party’s over, snuggle down to sleep in some Christmas-inspired nightwear. Try the cute, pink snowman print nightdress by Presence – and the Christmas-inspired pyjamas by La Senza will make sure you get a good night’s sleep on Christmas Eve, no matter how excited you are about the big day ahead.
