Acne AW11 Show LFW

For once what’s shown on the catwalks bears some relation to what we’re wearing in real life. Due to the extreme winter we’ve endured in the UK and the US, the parkas, furs and chunky knits shown on the catwalk (for next autumn-winter) are easier to digest as we trudge across town trussed up in similar heat-sealing layers. Early indicators suggest colourful furs (which will no doubt translate as fake furs on the high street), utilitarian parkas with a luxe twist and all manner of textural, layer-friendly knits.

There’s a distinct leaning towards artful mixing inspired by the 90s in general and Kate Moss circa 1995 (AKA the Johnny Depp Years) in particular. Think whisper-light Galliano-esque dresses under boyish parkas with perfectly polished hair and make-up and chunky boots. If Altuzarra is anything to go by, this will be the default look for the average haute hipster-about-town. More daring are the colourful furry coats as seen at Prabal Garung, where a collarless fur in graduated shades of purple was hard to ignore. Early adopters are already channelling the look with Prada’s primary-hued fur stoles. Colour has been ramped right up for next winter as minimalist shapes get the maximalist colour treatment. Standout examples come from Jaeger, Jonathan Saunders and Acne (pictured), with editors already shopping their closets to defy rainy London in optimistic shades of tomato red, emerald green and sunny turquoise.
