Fabulosity For All Seasons by Disneyrollergirl

Marc Jacobs SS11So much for the New Minimalism movement. Barely a season has passed and pffftt, like a puff of smoke from Aladdin’s lamp… vanished.

Well, not quite. I’m sure the Celine effect has legs and will last the distance, but perhaps as more of a footnote than the big story. Because really, what more is there to say about classic staples? You buy them, you keep them, you wear them, end of. But fashion needs its thrills which is why everyone got so excited when they first set eyes on Marc Jacobs’ fabulosity fest for spring-summer. The excitement reached fever pitch when Tom Ford’s womenswear collection finally revealed itself in the pages of American Vogue this month. Glamorous, decadent, dramatic, disco-tastic … and not very spring-like, I noticed. In fact, I’d say it’s rather right for now. What is the party season if not crying out for seventies YSL-inspired jewel colours, tuxedo tailoring, Jerry Hall curls and lashings of cherry-hued lipstick? In a way, it’s the Celine effect ramped up to the power of ten. They’re classics but of the party-girl kind. Now tell me that’s not a good excuse to buy another pair of leopard-print heels?
