Classic checks are back for 2012 – and we can’t get enough of them. Checks are one of the most versatile patterns and can pep-up any outfit, taking you seamlessly from office to bar. And if a pure check isn’t quite your style, you can take inspiration from the catwalks by mixing in squares and diamonds for a geometric look. A checked shirt is an easy way to wear the trend – and is perfect for off-duty days – but you could go a step further with this pattern. Whether tartan or windowpane, try checked trousers paired with a top in similar colours, and checks look great with edgy items, like masculine boots, boxy leather jackets and oversized sunglasses. Or, you can always take a more subtle route by pairing checks with dark denim for a timeless effect.

Are you going to give checks a chance this spring?
