Get Festive With Fair Isle

fair isle trend latest aw11Named after a tiny Shetland Island, Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique that is big on colour and large on pattern.

I fell in love with Fair Isle last winter when I found a sweet little knitted dress by Warehouse and wore it to absolute death. Warm and snuggly, it was also incredibly sassy due to a short length and a clingy fit – perfect if you want to be appropriately dressed during the winter without sacrificing your sex appeal.

It’s The Bomb!

Bomber Jackets

Girly is my middle name, but bomber jackets have been in and out of my wardrobe more times than Sinitta has shouted “Ant!” and “Dec!” in a Bush Tucker Trial (and believe me, that’s a lot).

If you think that bomber jackets are only for boys, think again. This season they are available in an array of styles and colours, from Paul’s Boutique  uber-feminine pink Varsity bomber jacket to the classic, soft leather bomber by ASOS.

If you’re not sure how to wear your bomber, there are two basic looks. Keep it simply stylish and minimal with skinny jeans and ankle boots, or girly things up with a pencil skirt and funky platforms.

Show Shopping Party Wear

show stopping party wear

I am soooo excited about the party dresses available this year. There are tons of gorgeous trends, styles and colours to choose from, as well as Christmas classics like the body-con making a welcome return.

I’ve already been stocking up on party pieces. I love a bit of lurex and I’ve been to a November fashion event wearing the fluted sleeve dress by Twist and Tango at ASOS, which looks great with a chunky lace belt. My glitter spot dress in black from Topshop went down a storm with the cast of The Only Way is Essex when I was lucky enough to attend a party hosted by Jessica Wright. In fact, I’m so keen on that dress I might invest in the oyster version too.

The key to looking like a pro on the sloops is looking the part. Aaaaand…relax

laid back tailoring trend aw11At the AW11/12 shows, I feared that by November this year we would all be forcing our bods into well-fitted (read: tight) suits. Much as I like wearing a piece that is made-to-measure, I’m not the world’s biggest fan of androgyny and the prospect of dressing like my dad – or a power-hungry 80s businesswoman – wasn’t that appealing.

As tends to happen, by the time the trend filtered down to the high street, the biggest brands had interpreted the style in a way that was much better suited (forgive the pun) to everyday, real life wear. Casual tailoring makes a hefty nod to the catwalk but is more workable with a winter wardrobe – and wearable, however “girly” you usually like to dress.
