Winter Warmers & Win £100 At Republic

With the Indian summer gone the wintry weather is suddenly taking a turn for the worst. It seems that rain is consistently being forecasted and I’m sure it won’t be long until the snow makes an appearance.

With Guy Fawkes night just round it’s hard to predict the weather and make that crucial decision of what to wear. However, there are a few key items that I believe are essentials. Wellies are a wise choice, as nobody wants to get their favourite boots covered in mud and candy floss. I especially love these Hunter Black Carnaby Geometric Wellies that are a stylish twist on the classic Hunter wellies. A chunky knitted scarf is a must-have to stop you from turning into Rudolf while watching the fireworks. And let’s not forgot an umbrella if you like to be prepared, like me. This Fulton Tiny Union Garden Umbrella from ASOS is a perfect size for your handbag.

Cut The Mustard

boohoo mellow yellow trend 2011Whenever black and neutrals are in vogue, there is always a colour backlash – and wearing vibrant mustard is a good way of rebelling.

As a redhead, I’ve never been too sure about wearing yellow – but that was before 2011 came along and blew my preconceptions out of the water. This season’s must-have mustard shade can work with pretty much any hair colour and skin tone. But it does take a bit of work to wear it successfully.

Uniqlo Launches Last +J Collection & Win £100

uniqlo j-collection final £100 giveaway fashion fridayI have been waiting with anticipation for Uniqlo to launch their AW +J Collection. I was certainly not disappointed. However, it has been mixed emotions as this is their last ever +J Collection.

The +J Collection stands for simplistic luxury. It focuses on simple clean cut pieces that are enhanced with a modern twist to give an exciting new edge to the wardrobe ‘classics.’

The women’s AW collection reflects a space-age theme with simple straight cut dresses and 3-D seams such as this stunning (+J)Wool Slim Fit Long Sleeve Dress perfect for round the office and this cosy (+J) Wool Down Short Parka. I fell in love when I saw this (+J)EFC Stand Collar Slim Fit Long Sleeve Shirt that can be worn in various ways to suit anyone’s style or mood.

Get Tribal With Aztec Prints

monochrome trend mis selfridgeThe Indian summer may have something to do with the continued popularity of Aztec prints, but whatever the reason, this fun and funky trend is adding a welcome pop of colour and print at a time when we’re usually wheeling out the neutral knits and LBDs.

Usually, I think of Aztec prints as everyday wear – I wouldn’t usually buy a piece for going out somewhere special in. This season, however, there are some gorgeous skirts and dresses that would work for a fancy restaurant or club night; I love the ASOS mini skirt in Aztec sequin and the stunning hand-embellished dress by All Saints. And (drum roll please) the amazing ASOS Exclusive Playsuit In Aztec Print is guaranteed to cause a big stir. All are fantastic if you want to show off your figure, and all demand to be worn with fierce platforms.

Power To Your Jumper

The Power Knit Trend

Don’t believe the hype; there is nothing frumpy, dumpy or otherwise unflattering about knitwear. Not this season, anyway. Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label led the way on the AW11 catwalks and the trend for punch-packing knits is now taking hold on the high street.

A practical choice on our chilly island, knits can be hugely warming and funky-looking, or sleeker and more stylish with plenty of “cling factor”. Thanks to an array of statement prints and colours, there is absolutely nothing boring about this year’s power knits and many of the styles are as suited to a Christmas party as they are for low-key nights in front of a roaring fire at your local bar.

Bargains In The Mid-season SALE

Mid-season sale bargains

Mid-season sales are the best in my opinion – a chance to bag some stylish bargains that you can wear immediately. Plus, you’ll find a few clever picks that will keep on ice until the second the seasons change.

Right now on Style Compare you can search for the ultimate dress in which to make a stunning Christmas party entrance; find gorgeous treats that will keep you warm (and ultra-stylish) during the depths of winter; and pick the perfect pieces to capture spring 2012’s strongest trends, making sure you are fashion forward without breaking the bank.

Christmas party season is sure looming, and by shopping for that killer dress now you could save some serious loolah. Ruby red, maxi length and asymmetric, French Connection’s reduced Louisa dress is ideal for pre-Christmas partying, while Boohoo’s Vivian shift dress makes a strong gothic statement to stand you out from the office crowd. Or glitter your way into Christmas with a bold, embellished party look in All Saints’ breathtaking Dasia dress. If you want to pull out all the stops with a designer label, get one now for much less than usual from the likes of Halston Heritage, McQ, Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang or Zac Posen.

When it comes to keeping warm, cosy and effortlessly chic over the winter, the mid-season sale will sort you out. Choose from goodies including Firetrap’s grunge-inspired striped cardi, Miso’s holey jumper, Rinascimento’s jumper dress, Yogo Ego’s studded sleeve top, and the knitted wool dress by Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti.

And for your fashion-forward take on spring 2012 trends (at fantastic prices) take a peek at Adam’s silk canary yellow dress (a must-have colour for spring); the versatile motorcycle jeans by Planet; play the sport luxe card with a discounted dress by Paul & Joe Sister; and get your pastel fix with top designers at great prices including Alberta Ferretti’s pastel colour blocking, Marchessa’s stunning lilac gown, Zac Posen’s silk-paneled blouse and Marni’s statement dress coat.
