Mary Portas bigs-up Britain
Her latest TV show, Mary’s Bottom Line, was a huge success and it seems that Mary Portas is single-handedly revitalising the British textile industry; her massively popular “Kinky Knickers” are going to be exported overseas. In the Channel 4 show, Mary turned around the fortunes of an old factory near Manchester and the luxury knickers she helped to produce (made with Nottingham lace) are already a sellout in the UK.
Mary firmly believes that British consumers are more interested in good quality than cheap, mass-produced products – and if her knicker sales are anything to go by, it looks like she’s right!
We really rate Mary Portas in the Style Compare office, and the timing of her latest campaign to boost British manufacturing couldn’t be better; with the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics fast-approaching, as well as a brilliant UK festival season, buying British has never been cooler.
